Since the beginning of March this year, rains have been making appearances on a couple of occasions in Vidarbha. On Sunday evening Nagpur city received moderate thundershowers. Nagpurians enjoyed the showers which came as blessings as the day was a hot one . According to Skymet Weather, the major reason for rains on Sunday was due to the Confluence Zone developed from eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh up to Gangetic West Bengal. In addition to this system, a trough is also extending from East Madhya Pradesh up to Marathwada across Vidarbha.

As these systems are expected to persist for some more time, more scattered rains over East Madhya Pradesh are likely while some moderate showers may lash parts of Vidarbha in the next 24 hours, said a statement issued by Skymet. Similarly, rain and thundershower with strong winds (30-50 kmph) at some places, associated with hailstorm at isolated places may occur over few districts of Vidarbha and Madhaya Pradesh in the next 24 hours.

Moreover, in wake of these activities, temperatures are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degree over both the regions. According to Weather Department, “March 18 onward, as the weather systems will move away eastwards, weather may gradually start clearing up and to become completely dry on March 19.” Out of the four meteorological divisions of Maharashtra such as Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Konkan and Goa, Vidarbha is the only lucky region to receive rains in the month of March. On Sunday, Amravati and Parbhani were the hottest places in the country with 40.2 degree Celsius while Wardha (40.0) and Chandrapur (39.2) also got a place in the top ten hottest places in the country list. Nagpur was 38.4 degree Celsius and Akola recorded 39.1 degree Celsius.
