Filing of nomination papers for Lok Sabha polls begin

EC fixed upper limit of Rs 70 lakh for election expenditure per candidate 
 
District Administration has geared up for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections as filing of nomination papers began from Monday morning. Nagpur and Ramtek Lok Sabha constituencies and Katol Vidhan Sabha constituency would go for vote on April 11. Last date for filing of nominations is March 25 followed by scrutiny the next day, on March 26. Addressing a press conference, District Collector and Returning Officer (RO) Ashwin Mudgal informed that candidates would get five days for filing nomination papers as Thursday, Saturday and Sunday are public holidays. Candidates whose nominations are cleared would still have two days of time thereafter to facilitate withdrawal. A total of 24 nomination papers were sold on the very first day. Abdul Karim Abdul Gaffar Patel (Shakeel Patel) become the first candidate to file nomination papers for Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency. While submitting nomination, candidates will have to file certified extract of electoral roll (indicating candidate as an elector of a different constituency), Form A and B (applicable for candidates of political parties), Copy of caste certificates (if the candidate claims to belong to SC/ST), security deposit and take oath.
 
Every candidate will have to pay a security deposit of Rs 25,000 while candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories, however, need to pay Rs 12,500 while submitting nomination papers. The RO further informed that nomination papers can be presented either by the candidate or his proposer between 11 am to 3 pm on all working days. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is March 28. Only a maximum of five persons can accompany the candidate while filing the papers. EC have fixed upper limit of Rs 70 lakh for election expenditure per candidate. Expenditure books will be given to the candidates in which they will have to record the details of expenditure on their campaign. Similarly, a team of videographers would continuously record the rallies of the candidates. A total of 82 polling stations have been marked as the critical out total 4,382 polling stations in the constituencies. The administration have formed four flying squads and three static surveillance teams to keep an hawk eye on conduct of elections.
 
 
 
64,855 new voters
 
A total of 64,855 new voters will exercise their franchise during the poll. Of them, 40,531 will vote in Nagpur Lok Sabha and 24,324 in Ramtek Lok Sabha. These new voters have registered their names as per directives of ECI. According to statistics, 5,907 new voters have applied from South West Vidhan Sabha constituency, 5,926 from South, 10,753 from East, 4,735 from Central, 5,398 from West, 7,819 from North Vidhan Sabha constituency. In Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency, 3,304 persons have applied for voting right, 2,039 from Saoner, 9,295 from Hingna, 2,423 from Umred, 4,571 from Kamptee and 2,692 from Ramtek.
 
162 fire arms deposited
 
A total of 162 fire arms were deposited in the city and district. RO Mudgal informed that a total of 90 weapons have been deposited by arm-license holders in the city while 72 persons have done it in the rural parts of district. The police have registered 49 First Investigation Reports (FIRs) in liquor smuggling, including 28 in Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency and 21 in Ramtek. The EC have intensified patrolling and monitoring of movement of vehicles under suspicious manner across the district. A total of 36 check points have been erected on the roads connecting the two Lok Sabha constituencies.
