Amidst a crucial triangular contest, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Ganesh Singh maintained his dominance in Satna Parliamentary Constituency No-9 since three Lok Sabha elections. Lok Sabha Elections 2004, 2009 and 2014 witnessed a close contest between BJP, Congress Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). BJP’s Ganesh Singh registered three consecutive victories by close margin of votes, while Congress Party, BSP and Samajwadi Party (SP) registered their strong presence in the constituency. BJP’s Ganesh Singh defeated senior Congress leader Ajay Singh Rahul in 2014 by just 8,688 votes after defeating BSP’s Sukhlal Kushwaha by the lead of 4,418 votes in 2009 election. Samajwadi Party has also registered its strong presence in 2009 election by securing third position and Congress was on fourth position. In the Lok Sabha Election – 2014, total 9,00,408 residents (62.63 percent) exercised their franchise against total number of 14,58,381 voters. Total 26 nominations were filed, eight were rejected, four were withdrawn and 14 candidates contested election.
BJP’s Ganesh Singh (3,75,288 votes) defeated Congress’ senior leader Ajay Singh Rahul (3,66,600 votes) by the lead of 8,688 votes. BSP’s Dharmendra Singh Tiwari (1,24,602 votes), Independent, Ram Shukla Rajjan (7,986 votes), Aam Aadmi Party’s Jagdish Singh (7,925 votes), Independents Birendra Bhai Patel (5,305 votes), Keshav Prasad Tripathi (2,253 votes), Gondwana Gantantra Party’s Shyam Lal Kushwaha (2,155 votes), Independents Ajay Pratap Singh (2,021 votes), Ashok Kumar Saket (1,694 votes), Apna Dal’s Dadhibal Prasad Patel (1,503 votes), Bhartiya Shakti Chetna Party’s Raj Kumar Gotam (1,202 votes), Dalit Vikas Party(Bharat) (950 votes) and Bhartiya Shramik Das Socialist (924 votes). In the Lok Sabha Election - 2013, total number of 6,59,605 votes (54.72 percent) were cast against registered number of 12,05,507 votes. Total number of 29 nominations were filed, three were rejected, five were withdrawn and 21 candidates contested election. BJP’s Ganesh Singh (1,94,624 votes) registered victory against BSP’s Sukhlal Kushwaha (1,90,206 votes) by the lead of 4,418 votes. Samajwadi Party’s P Rajaram Tripathi (1,30,339 votes), Congress’ Sudhir Singh Tomar (90,806 votes), Independents, Bhaiya Lal Urmaliya (8,856 votes), Manish Kumar Jain (5,177 votes), Chhotelal (3,962 votes), Gondwana Mukti Sena’s Chhotelal Singh Gond (3,892 votes), Independents Ramvishwas Basore (3,315 votes), Ram Sajivan (3,046 votes), Ashok Kumar Kushwaha (2,839 votes), Akhil Bharatiya Hind Kranti Party’s Onkar Singh (2,633 votes), Independents, Ramayan Chaudhari (2,468 votes), Munni Kranti (2,409 votes), Lok Jan Shakti Party’s Shobhnath Sen (2,369 votes), Indian Justice Party’s Sunderlal Chaudhari (1,798 votes), Gondwana Gantantra Party’s Rajesh Singh Baghel (1,780 votes), Advait Ishawasyam Congress’ B Ballabh Charya (1,718 votes), Apna Dal’s Girja Singh Patel (1,560 votes) and Republican Party of India (A)’s Pramila (1,261 votes). In the Lok Sabha Election -2004, total 6,10,899 votes (46.11 percent) were cast against 13,24,818 voters. Total 16 nominations were filed, two were rejected, one withdrawn and 13 candidates contested election. BJP’s Ganesh Singh (2,39,117 votes) registered an outright victory against Congress’ Rajendra Kumar Singh (1,55,955 votes) by the lead of 83,162 votes. BSP’s Narendra Singh (78,644 votes), SP’s Narayan Tripathi (50,778 votes), RSMD’s Jug Lal Kol (47,069 votes), Independents Sunil (17,957 votes), Vansh Gopal (4,986 votes), Ramroop Patel (3,223 votes), Ramesh Prasad (3,118 votes), Bed Prakash Pandey (2,620 votes), Apna Dal’s Ravendra Pratap (2,618 votes), Mohammed Khalil (2,170 votes) and Ashok Kumar Pandey(1,472 votes).
