BSP finalises candidates? In a late night development on Sunday, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was said to have finalised the names of its candidates for Nagpur and Ramtek constituencies of Lok Sabha. As per the messages circulated in media circles, BSP had decided to field Mohd Jamaal from Nagpur, and Subhash Gajbhiye from Ramtek.

The situation would be clear on Monday, the last day for filing nominations for Lok Sabha elections. Confusion over Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi candidates Sunday late night saw factionalism break out in Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), led by Adv Prakash Ambedkar. Sagar Dabrase, State General Secretary of Bharatiya Republican Paksh-Bahujan Maha Sangh of Adv Ambedkar, claimed that Adv Ambedkar had asked him to file nomination papers as VBA candidate from Nagpur constituency. Dabrase also claimed in e-mail circulated to media that he was official candidate of VBA from Nagpur, and Kiran Patankar from Ramtek constituencies of Lok Sabha. The communique he circulated to media was issued in the name of Ravi Shende, City President. Dabrase was previously with Bahujan Samaj Party. Dabrase and Patankar both will submit their nominations on Monday after taking out a rally to District Collectorate from Samvidhan Square, stated the communique from Dabrase. However, one Sandip Nandeshwar issued a statement on behalf of VBA that the authorised candidate would be declared on Monday and the Aghadi had not announced ticket to Dabrase. Soon after, Dabrase issued another statement to media that Nandeshwar was in no way associated with either VBA or Bharatiya Republican Paksh-Bahujan Maha Sangh. “I have been asked by Adv Prakash Ambedkar to contest Lok Sabha election from Nagpur constituency. Accordingly, I shall submit nomination papers on Monday,” Dabrase stated.

Modi to launch campaign in State from Wardha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally at Wardha on March 28 to kick-start his campaign for first phase of Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra. Five years ago, during 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Modi, while campaigning as the prime ministerial candidate, had started his campaign from Wardha. It proved to be a lucky launch, as the BJP romped home with a thumping majority five years ago.

This time too, the Prime Minister has chosen Wardha for his opening rally, which will be held at Swavalambi Maidan at 11 am on March 28. Following this, he is expected to visit Akola and Nandurbar. Once a citadel of Congress, the Vidarbha region is now considered as the stronghold of the BJP. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP-Shiv Sena combine had swept Vidarbha by winning all 10 seats in the region. The BJP won six seats, while Sena emerged victorious in four constituencies with huge victory margins.

Though the date is not confirmed, the Congress has already filed an application with the District Administration for allotment of ground. April 6 is Gudipadwa, hence all candidates are avoiding any major campaign since lot of Hindu new year celebration events are planned by social organisations. Congress workers are also hopeful that AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi will hold a road-show at Nagpur in the first week of April to bolster confidence of party. MNS leader Raj Thackeray who has declared not to contest Lok Sabha polls but vowed to campaign against BJP, is also likely to hold a rally at Nagpur. Besides, BSP supremo Mayawati and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav are also likely to address the rally. Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi leader Prakash Ambedkar and MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi is also likely to address rally here to boost prospects of their candidate.

Fadnavis, Yogi, Uddhav to address meetings in city

Senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari will himself address at least four meetings in the city everyday, including one big rally in one of the six assembly segments. Besides, he is scheduled to visit all assembly segment areas during next two weeks while adjusting his national campaign assignment. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has planned between 10-12 rallies in city in the next two weeks.
