Rise in number of students opting for Pharmacy course
Number of candidates appearing in Maharahtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) conducted for the admissions to engineering, pharmacy and agriculture courses has declined by 5 per cent. This year, 4.13 lakh students have registered for the test. Last year, 4.36 lakh students had appeared for the CET. According to teachers in engineering colleges, reduction in registration can be because of students have started searching for multiple avenues.
Except a few, many still has craving for science, engineering and technology. A teacher of a renowned engineering college, on the condition of anonymity, said, “Changes made by the authorities in syllabus of Common Entrance Test (CET) created confusion among students. Last year, the test was conducted on the basis of Class XII course with 20 per cent questions based on Class XI curriculum. This year, 50 per cent curriculum of Class 11 was added. Students find it difficult to cope with the last minute changes in the syllabus. This has been going on for the past several years.”
Surprisingly rise is registered in number of Pharmacy students. Total 64,186 students have registered for undergraduate pharmacy courses this year, which is 24 per cent more than the number of students registered in 2017-18. In the year 2017-18, about 52,014 students appeared for Pharmacy. CET Cell has decided to conduct MHT-CET for 12 days. It will be held twice a day. It will begin on May 2, 2019 and will conclude on May 13. The examination is being conducted on-line for the first time while choice of the day and a slot for the CET is to be opted by the students.
