The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) DI recently conducted a seminar for the women entrepreneurs of Vidarbha region wherein Dinesh Rai, Former Secretary, Govt of India, Ministry of MSME and Chairman, Alliance for Indian MSMEs (AIM), said that in modern India women are not just house makers but they are managing business also. “More and more women are taking up entrepreneurship as a career. However, there is a dire need of creating awareness among women entrepreneurs about various Government schemes,” he said. Rai was chief guest at the seminar. P M Parlewar, Director, MSME-DI, Nagpur presided over the programme while B C Bhartia, National President, CAIT, was also present on the dais. Rai interacted with the prospective and existing women entrepreneurs of Vidarbha.

The objective of the programme was to promote women entrepreneurship by creating awareness about the various schemes of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) for the benefit of women. Apart from this, the objective of the seminar was also to motivate women so that they could start their own enterprise and become self employed. “Women should become job givers rather than job seekers,” he said. He assured all possible help from AIM organisation working closely with industry, Government, academia and chamber associations.

“The aim is to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry, partnering industry and Government alike through advisory and consultative processes,” Rai added. P M Parlewar said, “There is an acute need for women to enter into entrepreneurship as they are the best managers, leaders and have the ability for risk taking,” he said. Parlewar further explained in brief about the various schemes of Ministry of MSME for women entrepreneurs. In addition to the special schemes for women entrepreneurs, various Government schemes for MSMEs also provide certain special incentives and concessions for women entrepreneurs. He urged the participants to get acquainted with the various schemes of Ministry of MSME, GoI and take benefit of the schemes.

B C Bhartia said, “Women entrepreneurship has been recognised as an important source of economic growth. They create new jobs for themselves and others and also provide society with different solutions to management, organisation and business problems.” MSME plays a very important role in the Indian economic structure due to its significant contribution in terms of output, exports and employment. For a developing nation like India, where the labour is abundant and capital is scarce, the MSME sector is a major source of employment for millions of people.

India has emerged as the testing ground for budding women entrepreneurs. Indian women are not only educated, talented, confident, assertive, ambitious, career oriented but they also know their minds. They have good managerial skills and risk taking ability. The Trade Related Entrepreneurship Assistance and Development (TREAD) scheme for women empowers women through development of their entrepreneurial skills in non-farm activities. The importance of MSME (SMEs) is well understood. The Government of India is actively undertaking promotion of women entrepreneurs through various schemes, incentives and promotional measures. The seminar was attended by various prospective and existing entrepreneurs of Vidarbha. Co-ordinator of the programme Manish Jha, MSME-DI, Nagpur proposed a vote of thanks.
