State police personnel are all set to sport a changed look as a new baseball-esque cap was added in the uniform of Constable to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) rank. Now, the vintage blue Fating Cap would be used only for the ceremonial parade by the policemen. Director General of Police (DGP) Subodh Jaiswal on Wednesday issued a circular to the all police units directing unit heads to make available new caps for the policemen.

The cap was introduced for the convenience of the constabulary force. Many times cops couldn't use the older cap while riding on the bike as it would blow away due to wind pressure” the circular stated. The new cap will give them comfort and convenience and genuinely more useful under the scorching sun.

New baseball caps bears logo of Maharashtra Police on the front panel. A senior official of City Police said that the caps would be made available to all policemen from the constabulary up to the Assistant Sub Inspector rank within next two months. It may be mentioned that new cap was first introduced in the Mumbai Police force about two-years ago.

The National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad had designed the cap on the request of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD). There were complaints from the department about old cap and difficulty in handling as it would easily slip-off from the head.
