Proving all the speculations, guessworks that were at its peak since the voting day--April 11, wrong, Nitin Jairam Gadkari won the Nagpur Lok Sabha election and many heaved a sigh of relief. Those confident of his victory already had reached his home --Bhakti at Ram Nagar, early in the morning to greet him, some brought band right in front of his home when results of first round were announced. In Shivaji Nagar people started playing band at 6 am much before the start of counting. The saffron coloured canopy erected in Bhakti’s premises was glowing with glory.

His house had taken a victorious look. For the last few days even the so-called political pundits were predicting the results --this time Nana Patole would create a history and defeat Gadkari may be by 1,000 votes-- but alas! The speculations ‘See how gloomy his face has become, he has fallen three time during election rally, so his defeat is for sure’ to ‘That’s why BJP is taking time to announce name of the candidate at Indore as Gadkari is likely to be fielded by the party there with a fear that he might lose to Patole’ were found to be only rumors.

Several leaders, people from various fields started visiting Bhakti and it was converted into a Chhoni. Gadkari was all the time was at home awaiting the final outcome. Unfortunately the process of counting moving with snail’s pace as opposition leaders kept raising objections. Meanwhile Central BJP leadership convened a meeting and Gadkari left for the airport. After he left, the Bhakti niwas wore a deserted look. Contrary to the picture visible at the offices of BJP, or at Bhakti niwas, the Congress’s Nagpur office at Devdia bhavan was locked.

Not a single leader was visible anywhere. When asked the shopowners near Devdia Bhavan, said that even a single worker of Congress did not visit the bhavan. Whereas the BJP camp was bubbling with enthusiasm. Gadkari went to Delhi but the aircraft in which he was travelling could not land due to bad weather so he returned. The crowd again thronged the premises of Gadkari’s home. Kaustubh Faltankar kept everybody updating about the results while Sudhir Deulgaonkar and others were busy in welcoming the people visiting Bhakti niwas. A large number of people were present to welcome Gadkari at a market premises near Gadkari wada at Mahal in the evening where a meeting was organised to celebrate victory.
