IG Deshmukh declares cash reward of Rs 20k on absconding accused
State’s law and order situation stooped to a new low, as close on the heels of rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl in Ujjain, whose mutilated body was found floating in Kshipra river, a ten-year-old missing girl was found murdered in State capital’s Kamla Nagar area on Sunday. Police said, circumstantial evidence suggests that she was raped before being killed on Saturday late night before being dumped on a drain’s concrete chamber near her home. Heavy police deployment has been done given the apprehension of communal tension flaring up in the area.
This incident is in no way less gruesome than the two cases of rape and murder with minors in Aligarh and Ujjain. The incident raised a question mark on safety of girls in the State as her body was dumped near her house and the accused managed to slip from the police net. Highlighting the sequence of events, DIG Irshad Wali said, the girl had gone to a shop in the neighbourhood to buy gutka pouch for her grandmother on Saturday evening around 8 pm and didn’t return home.
Her house lies in the Mandawi Basti slum area near IIFM where the 33-year-old accused Vishnu too lives in a rented house with his mother and at the time she went missing, there was power outage that he took advantage of. Accused hails from Khandwa and started living here with family in rented house of Akbar in Mandawi slum area. Wife has separated from accused due to his drinking habit and on the incident day, mother of accused was not present at home.
However, as the issue snowballed in media and Government was apprised about it, seven policemen, including an ASI Dev Kishan, two head constables-Narendra and Jagdeesh- and four constables Roop Singh, Prahlad, Vishnu and Virendra Singh were suspended for slackness in discharging their duties and a reward of Rs 20,000 was announced by newly appointed IG Yogesh Deshmukh on the absconding accused. Three police teams were sent to Maksi, Ujjain and Khandwa in search of the accused.
