AMID outrage over rape and gruesome murder of a 9-year-old girl in Kamla Nagar area of Bhopal, the Khandwa Police, on Monday, arrested the absconding accused from near the temple town of Omkareshwar from where the accused was brought to Bhopal. A cash reward of Rs 20,000 has been declared by IG Yogesh Deshmukh on the absconding accused. Several teams were formed to catch Vishnu Prasad (33), who was finally held in Omkareshwar in Khandwa, ASP Zone-1 Akhil Patel said. The arrest was made following a tip-off, said the senior cop, adding that efforts will be made to get the culprit punished in the court within a month.
A chargesheet in the case will be filed within 48 hours. There was an atmosphere of doubt in the Mandwa slum near Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) in Nehru Nagar where victim’s body was found in a drain before being raped leading to protests in the area on Sunday morning. The anguished locals continued their protests on Monday outside the Kamla Nagar police station here. A huge gathering of over hundreds of people blocked the Nehru Nagar square on Monday demanding immediate arrest of the man who raped the girl.
The mob even tried to gherao the police station and cops had to lock themselves inside to save themselves from the anger of the public at the time. It was after intervention of senior officers the mob was dispersed after an hour and till then the whole movement in the area was interrupted at the square. The mob refused to relent and was not allowing any movement on the square and nearby areas.
It was after the intervention of police and leaders; they relented and went to Mandwa basti where the girl was raped. They were told that a few of them would be allowed to see the rapist in police net to assure them that he has been arrested. On the other hand, the women were seen suggesting the girls need to be under supervision and no one should be trusted.
