By T G L IYER:
Think of your attitude as the mental filler through which you experience the world. Some people see the world through the filler of optimism while others see it with pessimism. The person with the negative attitude thinks I can’t. The person with the positive attitude thinks I can. The person with the negative attitude dwells on problems. The person with the positive attitude thinks of solutions. The person with the negative attitude finds fault with others where as the one with the positive attitude looks for good in others. Your attitude is the window to the world. We all start life with good attitude.
Our windows get dust and scratches. The real problem is the dirt on the windows. If that is cleaned off and on, our mind gets a clean view of the beautiful life outside. We always have a choice. We can leave the filter on the window and look through the scratched glass. But if the window is cleaned occasionally, we can see the beauty outside and it becomes a habit to cultivate. Those who have read the book “Man’s search for meaning” will know that Dr Victor Frankle’s father, mother, brother and his wife died in camps or were killed in gas chambers. In his book Dr Frankle says “Everything can be taken away from man except his attitude towards life, he can not only survive but become positive and a man of optimism.
A happy person is not a person in a happy set of circumstances but a person with a certain set of attitudes”. You and you alone control the circumstances of life and you make it work in your favour or against you. Henry Ford, the American Car Maker said: “Whether you think you can or think you cannot, you are right”. We become what we think about. Earl nightingale said that all great Thinkers, Writers, and Philosophers have agreed that our thoughts determine our actions. Nepolean Hill another great author and philosopher said “What the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve”. The Bible says “According to your faith be it unto you” (Matthew 9:29).
Also proverb says “As a man thinketh in his Heart, so is HE”. A man is what he thinks all day long. ROBERT Collier put in another way “There is nothing in Earth you cannot have once you have mentally accepted the fact that you can have it”. If you constantly think about a particular goal, then you will take steps to move towards that goal. Like a magnet, you will attract the opportunities that will move you towards that target. This means that there is a power within each of us that propels us in the direction of our dominant thoughts. Also remember, that a little positive thinking does not bring the results you aspire. One must take control of his activity until it becomes a habit! My teacher once described how a bad habit is formed.
“A slight concession or compromise initially leads to bigger concession until eventually a bad habit becomes a way of life. Research has revealed that one person in 16 who takes a social drink will became an alcoholic. All bad habits start slowly and gradually and before you know, you have the habit and the habit has you. Bad habits similarly take the toll until one day the man falls. As the wise man said “The best way to stop a bad habit is not to start it!” Put something into life and you can get something out of life. In this Universe, you can’t get something for nothing. Work is the cure for all. The wise man saw that if you want to occupy a place under the Sun, you must expect some blisters! Work is the price we enjoy to travel the highway of success. If you don’t succeed don’t quit. Failure is correctly identified as the line of least persistence success occurs when opportunity meets preparation. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. You became the champion by fighting one more round. When things get tough, you fight one more round, very few in this world dislike description; they all like it in the long run. Also remember, that there is no such person called a lazy person. He is either sick or indisposed. If he is sick he should go to a Doctor. If he is uninspired, expose to reading and listen to motivational speakers. A champion is caught in our atmosphere of greatness. You have to prime the pump before the water will flow!
