Taking serious cognizance of students’ sufferings during ongoing engineering admission process, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis personally talked to the authorities involved in the process and took them to task. The agency named SAAR that was given a contract of conducting the process was removed. Fadnavis asked authorities to constitute a committee to find out the reason of delay and submit the details by Thursday evening itself. Now, State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell will restart admission process on Monday, June 24.

Those who had done with the procedure earlier also have to do it again. Fiasco of engineering admission process continued on Day Four too. Not a single admission was confirmed. Parents after undergoing a lot of suffering chose to return home. At some centres, parents and students went berserk and tried to attack staff at Setu Suvidha Kendra. CET Cell has displayed a letter on its website on Thursday late night. It says, chaos was created as all the students aspiring to get admissions to degree engineering, architecture, hotel management and catering technology etc at once started browsing resulting in increase of load on the website.

The functioning of website slowed down. The committee constituted by Admission Regulating Authority decided to suspend the process of on-line registration, uploading of document till June 24. State CET Cell has made it clear new schedule would be declared soon. After failing to get link through which documents were to be verified, students aspiring to get admissions to first year degree engineering had to return home disappointed. This position remained till Tuesday. On Wednesday, after the intervention of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the link was opened but technically it became sluggish and students continued to suffer. Not a single verification was done after the passage of four days. Though State Common Entrance Test Cell has declared that dates would be extended, it has not made it is not talking about bringing improvement in system. In the last four days people not only suffered but working time too got wasted. Many parents called ‘The Hitavada’ office and expressed their anguish for the total episode. They demanded that authorities must be made aware of software that was being used should be changed. Many students and parents are confused about the score to be counted for the admissions.

Students appeared in Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) and Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) Since there are technical issues at the level of State CET Cell, SETU Suvidha Kendras are helpless. Parents did not understand this particular aspect and at some centres they went berserk, tried to beat the staff at the centre. Due to such beating incidents, some centres asked parents and students to go to other centres citing the reason that their system was not working. The admission process for BE first year has begun on Monday.

Government hurriedly announced the admission process because of which students have to suffer. Many parents blamed Government for bringing all the admission procedures under Setu Suvidha Kendras which are not prepared fully. Setu Suvidha Kendra is the concept being implemented by Government for the first time. It will be a centralised one for conducting admission processess of all the profession courses including MBBS. Some officials created doubt over the system and expressed fear that it would hit MBBS admission process too that has not begun yet. Parents are of the opinion that Government should have prepared itself while adopting new system.
