Changing climatic conditions of Nagpur is a biggest example of global warming. Nagpur that is situated in the centre of the Indian Peninsula experienced all type of extreme weather in just couple of years.
Nagpur experienced the highest ever 24-hour rainfall on July 6 in 2018. City recorded above 300 mm rains that day. The temperature crossed all barriers and registered the lowest ever minimum temperature at 3.5 degree Celsius on December 29 in 2018. The summer 2019 recorded the almost highest maximum temperature with 47.5 degree Celsius on May 29.
The onset date of South-West monsoon in Nagpur is June 10, but this year it shifted by 15 days which is also an effect of climate change.
“Last 15-20 years the onset date of South-West monsoon is shifted by ten days in Nagpur. The monsoon normally hits the city after June 15 and it is happening due to many reasons. This year Vayu cyclone consumed all moisture which shifted the onset date,” said a meteorologist.
According to the weather expert, “Vidarbha still have to wait for two more days for monsoon and the first rain will hit
Nagpur after June 26. This delay occurred due to less availability of moisture in the atmosphere.” “After first spell of rains Nagpur will experience immediate dry spell which will last for about one month. City will receive normal monsoon this year in the second spell of rains,” said the expert.
On Friday, Gadchiroli recorded the highest rains with 30 mm rainfall while Chandrapur also recorded 10.4 mm rainfall. Bramhapuri (4.8) and Nagpur (2.0) also experienced some rains on Friday.
Wardha was the hottest city in Vidarbha on Friday with 42 degree Celsius. Other places like Akola (40.1), Chandrapur (40.2), Nagpur (40.8), Washim (40.0) and Yavatmal (40.0) touched the 40 degree mark. Amravati (37.8), Buldhana (37.3), Gadchiroli (37.2) and Gondia (39.0) recorded below 40 degree Celsius on Friday.
