Govt should focus on rehab of dam outsees: NBA

Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA)activists organised a press conference in state capital on Friday with regards to the rehabilitation issues of dam out sees .They alleged that the total amount spent on Sardar Sarovar was Rs 60,000 crores, while the original commission for the Planning Commission was only for Rs 6488 crores.
 
 
The scheme was completed by showing the benefits of power to the drought-hit farmers of Gujarat. But today the reality is that Gujarat governmnet has not been paying the amount required for rehabilitation work till now, taking the land of 192 villages of Madhya Pradesh and also city’s land, forest land etc. they added. They claimed that without rehabilitation laws there is no possibility that dam outsees will be provided with required justice . Madhya Pradesh government should take a stern action has the right to ask for demands of outsees .One of the most important issues is the question of the benefits of people of Madhya Pradesh. 56% of the electricity generated from Sardar Sarovar will be allocated to Madhya Pradesh, it is a policy plan.
 
 
Various decisions related to rehabilitation of Madhya Pradesh have not been taken seriously and in the last 15 years, the work of environmental protection is not organized. Besides, over 6000 fishermen have become unemployed after the fishing business is over. They said that the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat is one of the biggest dams on the river and was one of the first focal points of the movement is part of the Narmada Dam Project, whose main aim was to provide irrigation and electricity to people of the states including Madhya Pradesh .
