Spectacular game

Sir,
The recently concluded cricket World Cup finals ended on a high note while keeping the fans on the edge. The spectacular tie game ended with super over being declared in favour of England with more number of boundaries after having yet another tied super over game. New Zealand conceded defeat on the verge of victory. It was a very close shave and worth an effort to bowl out England for 241 runs and thus limit their run chase to claim the title. New Zealand will be remembered for their sportsmanship and maturity displayed in first ever World Cup final declared as a tie. ICC needs to be appreciated for organising such a mammoth tournament, especially during turbulent weather affecting the matches. Via email Varun Dambal

Rahul fails Congress

Sir,
The entire campaign of Rahul Gandhi for 2019 general elections was based on the criticism of Mr. Modi and the BJP in tackling national problems without suggesting alternate solutions. He levelled wild charges without proof, finally ending with the slogan of “Chowkidar chor hai!” This invited defamation cases against him in various courts and a rebuke from the Supreme Court. The common man was not impressed by these tactics, contributing to the electoral debacle of the Congress. Secondly, Rahul gave up the presidency of Congress party without proper appointment of his successor. The uncertainty at the top level resulted in disintegration of the party with the exodus of its members mostly to BJP. It is a pity that in Congress there is not a single member willing to take up the leadership owing to the Congress culture of too much dependence on one family. Prof. B. N. Chatterjee, Nagpur
