Test firing of Russian Gun System commences

Test firing of six modified barrels of 155 mm Russian Gun System has been started and will soon handover to Vehicle Factory Jabalpur for assembling of upgraded version ‘Sarang – 155’. Ordnance Factory Kanpur fielded the six upgraded barrels of 155 mm gun at Central Proof Establishment, Itarsi. Once the test firing of barrels will be completed VFJ will kick start the assembling of six of the 12 Sarang Gun Systems.
 
 
It may be noted that Vehicle Factory Jabalpur started diversified project of assembling upgraded 130 mm Russian Gun System. VFJ already started production of Dhanush – 155 gun parts and all set for assembling of Sarang Gun system in a technical collaboration with Gun Carriage Factory. GCF already started assembling of nine Soltam Guns. Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, Senior General Manager, Govind Mohan, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that preparations for assembling the upgraded gun system of Sarang – 155 have been completed. Upgraded barrels have been fielded for test firing at CPE Itarsi and soon handed over to VFJ for starting its final assembling.
 
 
He informed that VFJ has been assigned for assembling 12 of the 30 gun systems while rest will be assembled at Gun Carriage Factory. The project is providing a new experience to the officers and employees to diversify the production line of the factory. Sarang Project will prove a milestone for VFJ to take-up other new projects for ensuring its contribution to the national security forces. Senior GM, Govind Mohan added that the indigenously developed gun system with upgradation of Russian 130 mm gun named ‘Soltam – 155’ is underway and its other components are being produced at Ordnance Equipment Centre, Kanpur and Ordnance Factory Kanpur. Initially ordnance factories have been assigned for production of total 30 Sarang Guns. GCF will produce 18 guns and rest 12 will be made at Vehicle Factory Jabalpur.
