Staff Reporter:
DEATH of two prisoners of Bhopal Central Jail at Hamidia Hospital on Sunday reveals some dark facts about Central Jail. Family members of one of the deceased prisoners claimed that even after he complained of chest pain on Saturday night he was not taken to hospital. It was only after his condition deteriorated and he died his body was rushed to Hamidia Hospital on Sunday morning and it was claimed by the jail administration that he died during treatment. Gandhi Nagar police and jail authorities are trying to hush up the matter. Jail Superintendent Dinesh Nargawe refuted allegations and said that the prisoners were rushed to hospital in time where they died of illness.
According to information, one of the deceased prisoner Shree Kumar (40), son of Kallu, complained of chest pain on Saturday night. He was feeling unwell but the jail authorities had no doctor to gauge seriousness of his ailment as well as he was not rushed to hospital. His condition deteriorated and he died in the Central Jail and on Sunday morning at around 6:30 am his body was sent to Hamidia Hospital and it was claimed that he died in the hospital.
His death would have gone unnoticed like other such cases if a newspaper had not reported the incident with shocking details about the shortage of doctors in Central Jail. Prisoners who get released on Saturday on condition of anonymity alleged that Jail Doctor Pravendra Sharma is heavily corrupt and used to sell medicines outside which were meant for jail prisoners.
On the other hand, prisoners capable of giving money are being declared suffering from serious ailments and were rushed to Hamidia Hospital for treatment. On the other hand, another prisoner Radhe Deemar (22), son of Kallu, who was in imprisonment at Rewa jail was taken to Central Jail as he fell ill on July 1 from where he was admitted to Hamidia hospital where he died on Sunday morning at the same time.
