MONSOON showers finally soaked the parched Raipur city in the evening bringing respite from the dry spell on Friday.
The sudden and short flurry of showers brought down the mercury level and cool conditions prevailed with around 5mm rainfall recorded in the evening hours.
Raipur recorded a meager 0.9mm rainfall during the day despite having a cloud cover of 95 per cent over the skyline.
But, the much awaited rains emerged from the dense dark clouds covering nearly the whole city. However, the steady rains gradually stopped in around 30 minutes while the overcast conditions prevailed. Apart from Raipur, Monsoon was also active across State with Usur recording the highest of 130mm rainfall followed with Bijapur and Bhairamgarh receiving 120mm rains. Senior Meteorologist of Meteorological Centre, Raipur H P Chandra said that a Monsoon trough is passing over Falodi, Alwar, Agra, Banda, Chark, Gaya and Puralia low pressure area expanding upto a high of 1.5km. At the same time, low pressure area is formed from Gangtok, South West Bengal and the adjoining areas on Friday.
Similarly, a second trough lies from North West Rajasthan to North West Bay of Bengal across North Chhattisgarh and a strong upper air cyclonic circulation also lies over South UP and adjoining areas extending upto 5.6km tilting South West ward.
Under the influence of these four systems, light to moderate rainfall is very likely at most places over Chhattisgarh on July 27. North Chhattisgarh is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated.
The sky would be cloudy with few spells of slight to medium rainfall expected in Raipur
on Saturday.
