Incessant rains rejuvenate water bodies


 
All NINE gates of Purna dam in Chandur Bazar tehsil of Amravati district were opened by 20 cms on Friday as water level in the project reached 82 percent due to heavy and incessant rains over last few days. Administration also opened two gates of Chandrabhaga project by 45 cms.
 
Total 82 mm rainfall has been recorded at Vishroli in 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday. Also, 93 mm rains have been recorded at Sawalmendha and 140 mm at Bhajdai in Madhya Pradesh. Therefore,as a precautionary measure all the nine gates of the project have been opened by 20 cms and 150 MCM water has been released.
 
Amravati district has been receiving continuous rainfall from last few days and as a result all nullahs and rivers are overflowing. But considering the lull in the monsoon earlier and the dire situation of projects, no one’s complaining with the projects filling up now.
 
Water level at Purna dam in Vishroli village has increased by 24 percent in 24 hours ending on Friday morning and has reached 82 percent. The water level increased rapidly also due to the heavy rainfall at the origin of the river in Madhya Pradesh.
 
Total 2 gates of Chandrabhaga project near Pathrot have also been opened by 45 cms. As a result, the river is in spate. Communication with Khallar village has been disrupted as water is flowing over the bridge connecting Khallar. Revenue employees are a close eye on the situation.
 
Meanwhile, 10 houses collapsed at Shirajgaon Kasba town in Chandur Bazar tehsil due to rains. The rain slowed down today at some parts of Amravati district on Friday but continued to batter the remaining other parts.
 
Considering the prediction of heavy rainfall all the schools in the district were kept closed on Friday as per instructions from the District Collector.
Old Age home inmates shifted to safer place With water Purna project water released in Pedhi river, administration gave alert call to people residing on the banks of the river. As per instruction from Amravati District Administration, 30 people from Sant Gadgebaba Oldage Home situated near Pedhi river at Walgaon were moved to safer places. Kailas Borse, Director of the oldage home, Akash Borse, Manager and Yashowardhan Thakur shifted the senior citizens to Changapur Hanuman Sansthan.
 
AKOT: The Khai river at Akot in Akola district got flooded after a gap of 5 years on Friday. With water level in Popatkhed dam going up to 50 percent, two doors of the dam were opened on Thursday at 8 pm. Meanwhile, water from Pathar river entered Khai river, thereby flooding it. People gathered at various spots to watch the river flowing with full might. It may be mentioned here that this is the first time that water has been stored in Popatkhed dam and hence the administration is taking all precautionary measures in wake of continuous rains and rising water level in the dam.
