Chhattisgarh lad Nitesh Sahu was conferred upon with National Youth Award. It is worth mentioning here that National Youth Award 2016-17 was conferred upon 20 individuals and 3 organisations at a glittering function held in the national capital. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports (I/C) Kiren Rijiju conferred the National Youth Awards for excellent work and contribution in different fields of development and social service. Nitesh Sahu, a resident of Lormi in Mungeli district, had been indulged in making familiarisation of the Ghurwa Project not only nationally but internationally as well.
Talking to media persons after getting the coveted award, Nitesh Sahu said he’s very happy as the Union Government has recognised his contribution and felicitated with National Youth Award. He said he got the award for his contribution in community development and national development. He dedicated the Award to his parents and elders, his fellow villagers, Guru Ghasidas University Administration, students and friends and all youths connected to Nehru Youth Centre Bilaspur. He said it was the collective contribution from these people that he could carry out the work for which he has got national recognition today. It is worth mentioning here that the National Youth Awards has been conferred on individuals (aged between 15-29 years) and organisations for excellent work and contribution in different fields of development and social service, such as health, promotion of human rights, active citizenship, community service etc. Sahu was awarded National Youth Award under the individual award category comprising of a medal, a certificate and cash prize of Rs 50,000.
The objective of the awards given by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Department of Youth Affairs is to motivate young persons to achieve excellence in the field of national development and social service, to encourage young people to develop a sense of responsibility to the community and thus to improve their own personal potential as good citizens and to give recognition to the outstanding work done by voluntary organizations working with the youth for national development including social service.
