The security personnel of Border Security Force’s (BSF) Frontier and Regional Headquarters in Bhilai celebrated the 73rd Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic zeal. Inspector General of BSF, Chhattisgarh J B Sangwa hoisted the national flag. Extending the greetings of Independence Day to personnel and officers posted in Bhilai and insurgency-hit Kanker district, IG Sangwa wished for their bright future.

Addressing the gathering, IG Sangwa said that since 2009, BSF has been deployed in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district as a part of campaign against naxalism. “Before the deployment of BSF, there was terror and fear of insurgents in the area. But BSF has succeeded in getting a positive attitude towards the spirit of security and force in minds of the people by continuously taking action against ultras in the area,” said IG Sangwa.

IG Sangwa further added that troopers and officials have played pivotal role in this task and BSF emerged as a popular force among people in the district. BSF personnel are performing their duties in difficult conditions and rough terrains with great determination. As of now after BSF’s deployment in the state, the force managed to eliminate eight hardcore naxals, succeeded in surrender of 99 ultras and removal of 289 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
