The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is going to further tighten its noose around former Vice Chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism (MCU), B K Kuthiala. EOW claimed that it is having the information that Kuthiala has allegedly done financial irregularities in construction of new premises of MCU in Bishenkhedi.

EOW Director General K N Tiwari told ‘The Hitavada’ that due to alleged financial irregularities committed by Kuthiala, construction cost of Bishenkhedi-based new premises of MCU increased many a times or say its construction cost increased by crores of rupees. Kuthiala changed co-ordinators looking after construction work frequently and botched up the construction cost by escalating the expenditures. Now EOW will try to know from MP Housing Board about the construction related information. Along with this, EOW is also keeping a close eye on the investigation done by MCU in connection with study centres opened during Kuthiala’s period. EOW has learnt that 1,257 study centres were opened during the tenure of Kuthiala, 281 of them were opened outside Madhya Pradesh.

“Of these study centres, 20 per cent reportedly did not follow the set norms or are fake. MCU has formed inspection committee to go through these study centres to know that whether they fulfill the desired criteria or not. The report of MCU’s inspection committee will be used as evidence by EOW,” said EOW sources. EOW is also keeping close eye on investigation done by MCU in alleged irregularities in appointment happened during Kuthiala’s period. It is being said that 24 assistant professors and financial officers were appointed during Kuthiala’s regime in gross violation of norms. Notably, when EOW declared him as absconder, Kuthiala moved Apex Court, moving petition for anticipatory bail. Apex Court had stayed his arrest till further order till certain period.
