Staff Reporter : Two most wanted gangsters of Jabalpur were shot dead in an encounter with Narsinghpur police in Jhiraghati under Suatala police station at around 3:30 am on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Vijay Yadav (36), son of Bacchu Yadav, resident of area behind Natthumal School, Gorakhpur and currently living in Jai Nagar and Sameer Khan (25), son of Kallu Pahalwan, resident of Pasiana Jhiriya in Hanumantal. In the cross firing, Additional SP (Narsinghpur), Rajesh Tiwari, Inspector Prabhat Shukla and Head Constable, Rajesh Sharma also sustained bullet injuries.
 
It may be noted that Vijay Yadav, with Rs 30,000 cash reward on his head, was absconding in murder cases of businessman Bittu Minocha, Congress leader Raju Mishra and history-Sheeter Kukku Punjabi and 18 other sensitive crime cases registered against him in Gorakhpur and Garha police stations. Similarly, Sameer Khan, with Rs. 15,000 cash reward, was absconding in 19 sensitive crime cases in Hanumantal and Civil Line areas. Inspector General of Police (Jabalpur Zone), Vivek Sharma, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ informed that the action of Narsinghpur police against two criminals was a clear message that the crime activities will no longer be tolerated. Criminals would be dealt with strictly but in accordance with the law.
 
IG Sharma informed that District Magistrate Narsinghpur has ordered a magisterial inquiry of the encounter under the supervision of SDM, Narsinghpur, Mahesh Kumar Bamna and further investigations are underway. Additional SP (Narsinghpur), Rajesh Tiwari informed that under the direction of Superintendent of Police, Gurkaran Singh, police started a special campaign against anti-social elements.
 
During the campaign, police received a tip-off about some miscreants who were sighted in Jhiraghati. Taking prompt action, SP Gurkaran Singh constituted a team, led by ASP Rajesh Tiwari, comprising Inspector, Prabhat Shukla, Reserve Force team, SI Rajendra Bagri, ASI Sanjay Suryavanshi, Head Constable, Rajesh Sharma, Constables, Anurag, Rajendra Patel and Laxmi Nagpure. Police team cordoned off the identified area and learnt that the accused had escaped in a black-coloured Swift car towards Jabalpur. Receiving information, police team barricaded the National Highway 12 and trapped the identified car near an under construction culvert on Jabalpur road, 8-kilometres from Suatala village. Witnessing the police team, criminals started indiscriminate firing. Policemen managed to protect themselves behind the police vehicles and started counter fire.
 
In the cross firing, ASP Rajesh Tiwari sustained a bullet injury on his left year while a bullet entered the right arm of Inspector Prabhat Shukla and Head Constable, Rajesh Sharma sustained bullet injury on his left arm. The two accused sustained critical bullet injuries and were rushed at Narsinghpur District Hospital where they were declared brought dead. Injured police officers were given treatment and their condition is reported to be stable. In further investigation, police identified the deceased as Vijay Yadav and Sameer Khan who were wanted criminals in Jabalpur.
