In a major breakthrough, under the special campaign ‘Prahar’ to root out drug peddlers and drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) has arrested woman-son duo from auto stand near platform no 6 of Bhopal Railway Station for peddling drugs and seized narcotic drug, Alprazolam, from their possession. These drug peddlers are part of inter-state drug trafficking nexus active in around half-a-dozen states. They were about to board a train from railway station to reach Banaras in Uttar Pradesh to supply this drug. The market value of seized 3Kg narcotics in powder form is said to be around Rs 2 crore.

This drug is a regulated drug (not to be sold without doctor’s prescription) and if it is in pill form then the value of seized drug would be around Rs 5 crore. In a press conference following their arrest, Special DG (STF/cyber) Purushottam Sharma said both the arrested accused are identified as Yasmeen alias Shakuntala and her son Shabir Hussain, both native of Mandsaur district. Yasmeen’s real name is Shakuntala and her father was posted in Collectorate office in Mandsaur. She got married with a man named Narendra but soon she got separated and tied knot with Noor Mohammad and changed her name to Yasmeen. In the year 2003, Yasmeen and her husband were earlier arrested by Bihar Police from Sasaram city along with 50 gram of this party drug ‘Alprazolam’.

Her husband is presently in jail but she got bail and got married with Asif and again indulged in drug peddling. She along with her son was supplying this drug from past two years in metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi due to huge commission they get for this work. On supply of 1 Kg Alprazolam, they get Rs 2 lakh as commission. Both of them are booked under relevant sections of NDPS Act and STF Bhopal would move court to cancel bail of Yasmeen.

While highlighting the network of this racket, ADG (STF) Ashok Awasthi said this drug is commonly known as party drug and in the interrogation, both mother and son duo disclosed the network of inter-state nexus which has spread its tentacles in Bhopal and Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, metro cities including Delhi and Mumbai as well as in other states which include Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh where this drug was mostly provided in hotels and restaurants during rave parties as well as to foreigner tourists. SP (STF) Vinay Pal said this is a fatal drug and the person who consumes it enjoys in indulging in criminal activities. Drug seized is consumed by criminals involved in serious crimes as it has lasting impact on brain. These criminals take drugs before committing crime.

Giving example of a criminal named Fauza, who was arrested from Indore in connection of 3 murders, SP Pal said that accused Fauza has stabbed three persons to death in Lasudiya and Vijay Nagar area of Indore after consuming this drug. When quizzed, he told police that he had no enmity with these persons and he even didn’t know them. He killed them one after another just because he was enjoying this act.
