Avinash Gharote, Anil Kilor take oath as HC Judges
The swearing-in of two city lawyers Avinash Gharote and Anil Kilor as additional judges of Bombay High Court took place on Friday morning at historic Central Hall of Bombay High Court. Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Justice Pradeep Nandrajog administered the oath to the newly-appointed judges. Justice Kilor and Justice Gharote will take charge at Aurangabad bench and hear the cases from Monday as per the judicial assignments. The Division Bench of Justice P B Warale and Justice Avinash Gharote will hear the writ petitions of the year 2015 and 2016.
The division bench of Justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice Anil Kilor will hear the writ petitions upto 2014 and also of 2018 and 2019.
Nitin Suryvanshi and Milind Jadhav too have taken oath. Division bench of Justice Sunil Shukre and Milind Jadhav will hear the writ petitions at Nagpur bench. After receiving the Presidential warrant, the notification was issued by Bombay High Court on Wednesday and swearing-in was finalised. The Supreme Court Collegium had cleared their names five months ago. Last week, they were formally asked to stop practice and received initimation from the High Court registry about the oath. Anil Kilor, who was holding the prestigious post of High Court Bar Association (HCBA) President quite ably, had resigned, passing on the baton to his senior colleague and well-know lawyer Adv Gauri Venkatraman, HCBA Vice-President. Bombay High Court has a sanctioned strength of 94 judges including 71 permanent and 23 additional judges. As on date, there are 59 permanent and five additional judges and there is a shortfall of 12 permanent judges and 18 additional judges. This year, a couple of retirements are on cards. A large number of lawyers and well-wishers of both Gharote and Kilor attended the swearing-in ceremony at Mumbai.
