IIIT students’ protest enters third day

Staff Reporter: Demanding a regular director, infrastructure and other basic facilities, large number of students from Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) continued their demonstration in MANIT campus for the third day. Students raised slogans against the management and said they do not have basic facilities like building infrastructure, hostel, etc. Students also visited the director incharge N S Raghuvanshi and discussed the problem. However, director told them that recruitment is under process by MHRD and soon they will have several facilities. Demonstrating students said to appoint a regular director for IIIT within 15 days and some other institute should be appointed as mentor as MANIT fail to take care of IIIT.
 
They also demanded to appoint eligible and regular training and placement officer for career of students. The demonstrating students alleged that director incharge N S Raghuvanshi is very careless for the students career. They said a separate director should be appointed for IIIT so that development work can be done for the institute. Students said Director Raghuvanshi does not show interest towards the placement and other facilities of the IIIT students. They alleged that Raghuvanshi threatened them to stay away from the strike and do not discuss the matter with media persons. Nodal officers of IIIT said that students are still not prepared for the job placement and it will take time to invite the companies.
 
IIIT was set up in Bhopal about three years back but it not even a building to run the institute. Temporarily, the institute started working in MANIT campus and students were allowed to reside in RGPV campus which is far away from MANIT. Students have also made allegation against nodal officer Jyoti Singhai and said that she is careless towards the career of IIIT students. According to students, when they contacted nodal officer Jyoti Singhai for placement she replied to search the job itself. They further alleged that she never helps them even to find out internship opportunity and students themselves search internship in private companies.
 
IIT has been started in Bhopal with 180 seats in three courses including computer science and engineering, information technology and electronic and communication engineering during year 2017-18. As per guidelines of central government, officials have proposed to spend 128 crore for establishing the institute. IIIT has been set up in RGPV campus to use its resources like faculty, infrastructure, laboratory in primary stage. There will be compulsory training, advanced academic research, commercial research, guest houses, demonstration theatres, incubators and recreation. It is the third IIIT in Madhya Pradesh after Gwalior and Jabalpur.
