Shweta selected for C’wealth Youth Officials Meet

Staff Reporter : City girl Shweta Umre once again brought proud moments for the city by getting selected for Common-wealth Senior Youth Officials Meet 2019 which is going to be held in Brunei from August 27 to 29. Shweta who studied B.Sc at Institute of Forensic Sciences in Nagpur got selected to represent India as a youth delegate of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in this International event. Prime Minister Office (PMO) recommended her name for this event.
 
Thereafter, She got selected from among 50 candidates from across the country. During the screening, the candidates were asked about upcoming regional issues. Shweta won the first National Youth Parliament Award in February at the hands of Prime Minister of India. Her speech during the Youth Parliament got viral in social media and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also appreciated her confidence and speech. She is currently pursuing M.Sc in Forensic Science from National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, Delhi. The role of young people in the development of Commonwealth countries will be the focus of a high-level meeting in Brunei.
 
The Commonwealth Asia Region Senior Officials Meeting will allow participants to assess progress on agreed youth policy priorities and finalise a regional strategy aimed at improving the wellbeing and livelihoods of young people in the Commonwealth. Two youths from every country will play the role of delegate and assistant in the delegation. The delegation will be headed by the joint secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry. She will present India’s report on youth development which took place in the country in accordance with the issues stated last year by the previous delegations. She would be including issues like giving youth a say in decision making and sporting activities. New issues for the coming year and their solutions too would be tabled at the meet.
