Business Bureau : Vegetable prices have become costlier as compared to year ago period in the wholesale market. Brinjal, the most preferred and regularly used vegetable has touched all time high of Rs 70 per kilogram, sources said. Ram Mahajan, Secretary of Mahatma Fule Sabji Va Fal Aditya Association said, “Brinjal has become dearer. Rains have damaged the crop to a larger extent. For example, of the 50 kg production of brinjal, only 15 kg is of good quality. Majority of the supply is restricted to local area only due to which the price has increased manifold.”

The influx of vegetables has came down to 10 per cent in the wholesale market which has inflated the prices. There was dry spell for a longer period. Those who were growing vegetables they shifted to other crops and therefore, the production of vegetables too has taken a beating. In the local market, cabbage is coming from Narayangaon and Madanpalli. Cauliflower coming from Aurangbad. “New vegetables will come in the month of October. Therefore there will be no correction in prices. We have to shell out more on vegetables,” Mahajan said.
