Amended Motor Vehicle Act comes into effect from today

Temporary respite from higher penalties for traffic rule violations From September 1, the amended Motor Vehicle (MV) Act will come into effect in the country. The overall implementation will take few days, at least in Maharashtra as police are yet to receive official notification in this regard. So, for now, Nagpurians will get temporary respite from stricter penalties for traffic rule violations.
 

 
 
Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the new penalties would be imposed only after receiving official notification in this regard. Sources informed that the notification to this effect was yet to receive by the office of Director General of Police (DGP) of Maharashtra police.
 
On Friday, President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019. Traffic cops will impose stricter penalties on violations which aims at tightening traffic regulations. Earlier this week, the Parliament had given nod to the legislation. The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019, received the assent of the President on August 9. As per the new law, stricter rules and increased penalties have been put in place to check on traffic rule violations and safety on roads across country.
