Jabalpur, a ticking time bomb, thanks to migrant population

But, authorities are in deep slumber and yet to wake up to this potential time bomb

Existence of migrants belonging to different states and overseas makes life in Jabalpur vulnerable. The city is home to a sizable section of migrants, who are living and working in the city without any identity. The point worth noting is that, district authorities have no scale to measure and monitor these illegal inhabitants. It is the duty of the District Police to ensure smooth law and order by keeping a vigilant eye on these unwanted elements in the district.

But, authorities are in deep slumber and yet to wake up to this potential time bomb. Highly placed sources in Madhya Pradesh Police, on the condition of anonymity, informed that, police are busy in tackling crime cases and maintaining law and order arrangements, but several sensitive crime cases, still unsolved due to involvement of outsiders, are emerging as threat to peace and security in Jabalpur. Most of the unsolved cases pertain to organised crime like dacoity and murder. Unsolved cases of dacoity and murder reported in Jabalpur can be traced to these migrants in city. He termed it the failure of beat system in existence a decade ago but was stopped due to cops turning a Nelson’s Eye.

Beat system is an essential tool for better monitoring of every single locality and collecting information about residents of such areas. Strict implementation of beat system may help the Police Department in a larger context to keep vigilant eye on suspicious elements and better maintenance of law and order arrangements.

It is a fact that, a large number of people migrated from different states and even across the borders may reach city and live as tenant at hostels and rented rooms. There is competent authority to check the authenticity and identity of any resident. Jabalpur is sensitive for security reasons due to having a major defence establishment of Madhya Bharat Area, four Ordnance Factories, Central Ordnance Depot, Army Base Workshop, State Electricity Headquarters, Railway Zone Establishment etc. Existence of any anti-national element in the city is sensitive for security of these establishments.
