Staff Reporter :

The special round of admission will be continued for ten days from Sept 3 to 12 Concerned over the large number of vacant seats in colleges, the Department of Higher Education (DHE) has decided to give another chance of admission to the students on first come first serve basis from Sept 3. According to officials of DHE, the special round of admission will be continued for ten days from September 3 to 12. A notification regarding the first come first serve based admission has been released by Additional Secretary DHE Dr Jaishree Mishra. As per order, online process for college seat increment (10 to 25%) will be continued from September 3 to 5.

Verification of the seat increment will be displayed on e-pravesh portal from September 6. Candidates who are already registered on the portal in college-level counselling (CLC) round will also be allowed to appear for admission in this round after verifying their documents. However, admission of such students will depend on seat availability. Students who are not registered will require to do their registration on portal. Under open category, DHE has witnessed 25,393 admissions in undergraduate and 6,801 admissions in postgraduate courses till Friday.

There are total 1,40,042 admissions in UIG and 22,746 admission in PG courses till now. Open category of admission was conducted till August 31. This year, DHE continued admission for UG and PG courses for 90 days, but over 40% seats are still lying vacant in colleges. As per academic calendar, admission process was scheduled from June 10 to August 31.

There are 1.20 lakh UG and 40,000 PG seats lying vacant in colleges. In the special CLC round organised for three days, earlier, the DHE had kept the seats reserved for EWS, OBC and SC/ST category, but due to poor response, all seats have been declared as general. Even after having their name in the list, candidates from reserved category did not confirm their admission on allotted seats. While on other side, many general category students did not get seat allotment because of seat reservation. DHE directed to assume all seats as general and allowed admission to the students as per merit list. DHE has conducted special counselling round from August 27 to 30 to fill up vacant seats.

The department had earlier released merit list for 2 lakh applicants in UG and 65,000 in PG courses. Out of this, 44,410 students were from UG and 16,500 from PG courses from unreserved category. Remaining applicants were from reserved category. All applicants were given sufficient time to confirm their admission on allotted seats, but they did not reach the college for admission confirmation.
