Incoming will not be headache, loyalists will be treated with proper dignity, said Dr Vinay Sahastrabuddhe, senior BJP leader and national Vice-President

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will bank on how it abrogation of Article 370, how it is batting for bringing uniform civil code, how it is endeavoring for bringing law to stop triple talaq is the general perception. But dumping all these speculations or perceptions, Dr Vinay Sahastrabuddhe, senior BJP leader and national Vice-President said, “Certainly abrogation of Article 370 is the biggest achievement of this Government. But we are not propagating it or not making it the only issue of our campaign. In fact, BJP believes in political performance. I feel proud to be a part of this party that is the only one that goes to the public with its performance in the eyes of common man.”

Dr Sahastrabuddhe, on Thursday, spoke to mediapersons at Press Club and tried to explained the role of BJP in the nation’s development. “We are making people aware of what we have done. We all are going to people and asking for Janadesh. We are telling them what our Government has done in last five years and what we want to do. So, we are appealing voters to exercise their franchise on the basis of our performance. We are transparent on this issue and open too,” explained Dr Sahastrabuddhe. “Modi Government has completed 100 days successfully.

Any party that comes to power second time, the responsibility on its shoulder gets increased. It is very difficult to sustain this second time’s responsibility, the United Progressive Alliance, led by the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, is the best example of how a party can collapse if it fails to sustain after coming to power in second consecutive term. BJP is well aware of it and so we are moving cautiously. Prime Minister Narendra Modi always say popularity should be given less importance than public welfare. It is evident from the fact that single use plastic free growth is on our agenda. This is an issue related to common public,” pointed out Dr Sahastrabuddhe, who is President of Public Policy Research Centre, a unit of BJP. Dr Sahastrabuddhe is President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and he talked about Soft Power.

He explained the concept, “India has a rich tradition of culture but over the period of years we never informed it to other countries. We call it as our soft power. We are not only promoting it but attracting other countries towards. We have our ICCR centres in several countries but were running sans heads since long. Our Government appointed learned people as their directors. For example, well-known writer Amish Tripathi has been appointed as Director of ICCR at London. We are starting ‘Understanding India’ course in other countries. We will make them aware of Indian culture handicraft, food festival, dance etc. Lot many students go abroad for higher learning.

We want more and more foreign students come to our country and for that purpose we are organising ‘Destination India’ conference at Pune. In the conference several issues will be discussed with the participation of learned persons, students’ organisations, officers, people from all strata.” On the question of economic slowdown in the country, Dr Sahastrabuddhe said, “The whole world is facing economic crisis. In fact, compared to other countries, India is in a better position. This Government is taking several measures by taking stakeholders into confidence.

I am not an economist but whatever I understand, this situation will improve soon.” On the issue Save Merit Save Nation, a member of BJP’s think-tank made it clear, “I am aware of the demands of the organisation and we have already started lateral entry which never was there. With the same thought Government brought Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota which is the good solution.” When asked, how the issue of leaders from other parties joining BJP will be tackled by the party? Dr Sahastrabuddhe said, “People from other parties are coming to BJP is an indication that they have convinced the strength of the party. There is no need to feel resentment by the volunteers, leaders in BJP. No injustice will be made by the party on the loyalists, they will get their due respects and will be treated with dignity.” Those present at the press conference were MLC Girish Vyas, MLA Krishna Khopde, Mayor Nanda Jichkar, ex-Deputy Mayor Sandip Jadhav, ex-Mayor and State Spokesperson Archana Dehankar, Chairman of State Haj Committee Jamal Siddique, Anandrao Raut, Arvind Gajbhiye, Sanjay Tekade, Chandan Goswami and others.
