Central team assesses damage to crops, properties in Vidisha

A central study team went to Vidisha district to assess the damage to crops and other properties in the wake of excess rainfall and flood on Thursday. The team members went into the fields to take stock of damage to crops. They also interacted with farmers to know the ground situation. The central team members A K Tiwari, Director, Agriculture and Co-operative and Farmer Welfare Department, and Manoj Pennikar, Director, Water Resources, Mantralaya.
 
The central team interacted with farmers to know extent of damage to crops. The team has come on a two-day visit of Madhya Pradesh to assess the loss of crops and properties by rains and flood. Notably this monsoon it has rained heavily in Madhya Pradesh. The spells of heavy to extreme heavy rains have left normal life in mess and destroyed the standing kharif crops. In the wake of damage to their crops, farmers are in deep financial crisis. Kamal Nath government has claimed that damage to crops and properties is more than Rs 11,000 crore.
 
It has urged Central Government to release the financial aid to the State and to clear the pending dues so that relief could be provided to flood affected people. It had even told that ex-CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP MPs from State should approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking financial help for the State. Out of 52 districts, at least 32 are affected by floods. Rains of this monsoon season has broken all the records.
