Getting mesmerised after listening to the motivational speech and making up mind to act according to what the speaker said, is a common picture. But how many youngsters remain exalted for long after the motivational speaker ends his or her talk is the real issue. What experiences motivational speakers have? Whether youngsters respond them fully? Whether they remain in touch with them for long and try to apply the things they heard from the speakers?

These are the questions, ‘The Hitavada’ asked some of the motivational speakers, who expressed their optimism and admitted the enthusiasm of youngsters is at peak, but they need proper direction and consistency. Dr Suresh Chari, a well-known motivational speaker who is Professor of Physiology in NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences receives good response from youngsters. He always tells 4-5 things to the youths and explains them in an elaborative manner but in a lucid way. “I always tell them to think positive.

Secondly, I make them prepare a plan about where they would like to see themselves after five years. They should see the dream and the plan of fulfilling the same. There are several habits that these youths carry with them. These habits make them not only lazy but also prevent them from going ahead. They become habitual of living in comfort zone. I ask them, to try to get rid of the ill-habits. Many of them later meet and tell me that how they got rid of the bad habit,” pointed out Dr Chari. Another issue raised by Dr Chari is poor reading habit among youngsters. In his speeches he appeals the audience, if they want to grow they have to read. Some of them meet Dr Chari in some function or at some other venue and tell him that they had started reading and reaping lot of benefits. “Youngsters are not bad. We elders should show them the proper direction. For example, they are aggressive.

I tell them the difference between aggression and assertion. Being firm and hurting is aggression. Being firm but not hurting is an assertion. Sensitivity, empathy is missing. But my experience tells me, most of them listen and implement in life. One girl who became Chartered Accountant now in Hyderabad sent me a letter and reminded me, what she learned from my speeches that helped her a lot. Of course, everybody does not come back. Some people do recollect when they meet me,” stated Dr Chari. Dr Chari expressed his pain when he sees youngsters at paan kiosk where they smoke. “These people have lot of potential. Why do they smoke, consume gutkha? There are some people to whom motivational speakers are not available. Such people don’t have role model in their lives. Some thing is need to be done for such people,” said Dr Chari. Dr Mrunalini Dasture, Principal of South Point School, Omkar Nagar, does get lot of response from the audience. She mostly delivers speeches for the teachers. She has prepared proper modules also aiming at motivating the teachers.

“Normally I try to be at ease while delivering speech. Audience expects speaker to interact with them. During my speeches, when I ask people should I stop, they say no. They tell me in next session what they learnt from my speech and started doing the same. Suppose while speaking on discipline, I explain the whole concept of this virtue and comes the response from the people listening to it that they implemented and are now getting benefits out of it,” informed Dr Mrunalini Dasture. Dr Sumant Tekade, known for delivering speeches on several aspects of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj bats for youngsters. According to Dr Tekade, youngsters are thirsty of knowledge but elders do not have it. “My experiences are different. I do get lot of Whatsapp messages from youths.

They ask me so many things. They meet me after my speech, get my number and seek guidance from time to time,” said Dr Tekade. Shiwalee Deshpande, Flight Lieutenant (retired) mostly speaks about defence forces. Her speeches are based on motivating youngsters to join armed forces. “Motivation to join the forces is one part. Another thing is motivating youngsters by narrating the actions of those who worked for armed forces and how they overcame obstacles in life. I also motivate the youths to become a good human being who helps in nation building,” explained Deshpande, a trustee of Prahar Samaj Jagruti Sanstha. Shiwalee Deshpande gets huge response after the delivery of her speech. “Some of them do join armed forces but not everybody.

They remain motivated for long time but not necessarily they join the forces. I tell them that they should have respect towards the forces because the people serving nation sacrificed their lives. Even if some youths don’t join the defence, they can become good citizens by inculcating the values of soldier. Through Prahar 290 youngsters now became officers in armed forces. There are others who wish to become officers in defence, they come to me, and seek the guidance,” said Flight Lieutenant Shiwalee Deshpande. When Deshpande tells youngsters the war stories, narrates the real life experiences, it creates spark in them. One should put a mark which we call living a very fruitful life, added Shiwalee Deshpande.
