Police force gearing up for ensuing Assembly elections

5850 cops, 750 officers, 2050 home guards and some companies of paramilitary forces to be deployed on election duty in city and rural Nagpur 
 
The city and rural police are gearing up to curb any criminal and untoward activity before and during the Legislative Assembly elections which is going to be held on October 21. District Collector, city and rural police jointly conducted a press conference on Saturday to share their preparation for smooth conduct of forthcoming Assembly elections in Nagpur district. Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay, Commissioner of Police said that city police was completely prepared to handle any kind of untoward activity in this election season. No one would allow to commit such activities which hampers the transparency of election proceedings in the district. “Preventive action would be taken against 1,200 persons in the city in view of elections. We have already taken action against 5,600 persons,” Dr Upadhyay told.
 
According to him, “There are 1,908 licensed fire arms in the city whereas 121 in rural Nagpur. The owners will have to deposit them except in special cases, which will be decided by a committee.” Police Department is also taking action against illegal fire arms in the city and rural areas. City police has identified 28 critical polling booths in the city and surrounding in which special security arrangements will be made. City police is deploying 3,600 cops, 500 officers, 1500 home guards for election duty. The department also demanded two companies of paramilitary forces from Central Government. City police will form zone-wise teams during the elections.
 
Department is also providing training to their officials about the election duty. In Rural Nagpur, 2,250 cops, 250 officers, 550 home guards will be deployed at 1,735 rural polling booths. Rural police also raised demand of paramilitary forces for the election, informed Rakesh Ola, Superintendent of Police, Nagpur Rural. Ola said that action had been taken against 4,788 persons while preventive action would be taken against 1,232 person in coming days.
 
Office-bearers of civic bodies surrender official vehicles After declaration of Model Code of Conduct for Legislative Assembly elections on Saturday, the office-bearers of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Zilla Parishad and others surrendered their official vehicles. The Legislative Assembly elections is going to be held on October 21. Mayor Nanda Jichkar, Standing Committee chief Pradip Pohane, Deputy Mayor Deepraj Pardikar, Opposition Leader Tanaji Vanve and chairpersons of different committees also surrendered their vehicles following the declaration of Model Code of Conduct. Similarly, Nagpur Zilla Parishad members also came to office in their official vehicles and in the evening they went back on their private vehicles on Saturday.
