Eknath Pawar, who calls himself ‘Krushidoot’, goes to the farmers’ fields and convinces individual farmers of their inherent strength and boosts their confidence to save them from committing suicide

Driven by the plight of farmers in the country which boasts being agriculture based, a person undertook a mission to change the perception with primary aim to boost confidence among farmers. They are the one who the nation needs to thank as their hard work and toil have till date gone unregistered on minds. Further in this age when there is craze for pizza, burger, WhatsApp, facebook and Tiktok, one person is trying to make the difference.

And he is Eknath Pawar, he has given himself a fancied title, Krushidoot, for his work of going at farm and convincing individual farmers of their inherent strength and boosting their confidence. Pawar’s unique movement ‘Thet Shetkarachya Bandhyawar’ (To the Farm of Farmers) was recognised by India Book of Record. It started off as a lone bird activity but now got shape of a movement as like minded people joined in a bid to reshape the way farming is done in country. Talking to The Hitavada, Pawar who hails from Washim stated the movement aims to thank them for their generosity and give rightful place to farmers, a thing that was forgotten by our society.

"We by visiting the farmers in their fields boost their confidence and told them to carry on and not be dejected by small failures", he stated further. Bandhawar as the title of programme suggests is the boundary between two farms that has significance in rural parlance. The event is sort of rally that is taken out every year from Chanda to Banda, means from Eastern most part of State to Banda, means in Mumbai to mark Krushi Din, Pawar informed. Farmers are counselled against taking extreme step as their death only aggravated problem for family they leave behind. Pawar further informed that theirs is the only organisation that started scholarship for girl child of farmers who committed suicide. "We encourage them to complete their studies and make their families self sufficient", he said.

Also children of farmers are encouraged to take to farming as due to negative image about them in society next generation is keeping a safe distance from farms. In the next part of the movement Pawar talked about partnering with farmers for making them financial self reliant. "We are going to lease out a small part of farm land and cultivate a crop having medicinal value as it is in big demand." The returns from selling the crop would be credited to the farmer and enable him to diversify and try new methods in farming. Traditional farming needs a change and during the talks with farmers we acquaint them with new research done in varieties and ask them to test the same.
