In a fresh development, Kotwali Police booked father-son duo Najaf Ali and his son Zohaib Ali for extorting money from a footwear businessman Mohammed Syed to exorbitant interest rates
A local court sent Zohaib Ali to judicial remand after his Police Custody Remand (PCR) ended on Monday and a fresh FIR was registered concurrently under same criminal charges against father-son duo Najaf Ali and his son Zohaib Ali. This time again, the duo have been booked under non-bailable offences. In a fresh development, Kotwali Police booked father-son duo Najaf Ali and his son Zohaib Ali for extorting money from a footwear businessman Mohammed Syed to exorbitant interest rates, said police sources. According to police sources, the accused loan sharks have collected Rs 1.20 crore from the victim against Rs 50 lakh lend in 2015 by charging exorbitant interest rate.
The accused loan sharks were constantly pressurising and threatening the victim for repayment of interest. After Mohammed Syed came to know about offence registered against the duo with Azad Chowk police station, he rushed to Kotwali police and lodged a complaint. Following the victim’s complaint, Kotwali Police registered an offence against Najaf Ali and his son Zohaib Ali under Section 384 (punishment for extortion) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under relevant section of Money Lending Act. Meanwhile, accused Zohaib Ali was produced in the court after his Police Custody Remand ended on Monday and he was sent to judicial custody. Zohaib Ali was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Rupal Agrawal from where he was sent to judicial remand, said Azad Chowk Station House Officer (SHO) K K Bajpai.
It may be recalled that Azad Chowk Police on September 20 loan sharks Najaf Ali and his son Zohaib Ali for extorting money from a hapless footwear businessman Gauhar Ali to exorbitant interest rates. In his complaint, the victim maintained that he had taken a loan of Rs 80 lakhs from Najaf Ali and Zohaib Ali around 4 years ago for some business purpose against which he repaid the three-fold interest (Rs 2.40 crore) against the principal amount. Still the father and son used to threaten the victim over phone, by shadowing him where he goes and sending their henchmen to his shop for recovery of more money against the loan. The victim also provided video footage and still images of Zohaib Ali, who along with a group of goons were seen inside the shop of the victim. An offence in this connection was registered against the duo under Section 384 (punishment for extortion) of IPC and under relevant section of Money Lending Act.
