Residents of Wathoda area are fed up with inaction on part of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in timely clearance of garbage from their area. A few miscreants are allegedly dumping harmful waste, household left over and other wastes like cardboards regularly in the area. Complaints to NMC to ensure regular lifting of garbage has fallen on deaf ears so far, said Bharat Motwani who has been chasing NMC officials of Lakadganj Zone.

Waste material dumped on open plot in Wathoda area.

Motwani told The Hitavada that their area lies opposite Swaminarayan Temple and nearly 5,000 people resides in Umiya, Kamakshi Sadashiv Layout. The area is still developing and hence many plots are lying open where waste is regularly dumped by citizens. Thereafter stray animals feast on these materials and it lay strewn on the roads causing inconvenience to citizens. The situation overall becomes Unhygenic causing immense discomfort to citizens. On Thursday, the situation in area is quite worse as weekly vegetable market function in Wathoda area on that day.

During the market time the area gets landlocked as the approach roads from Temple and behind KDK College have not be constructed by the civic body yet. The residents find it difficult to move out of their houses and in case of any emergency someday the people in the area might die due to delay in reaching hospital, Motwani claimed. Moreover after the vegetable market wraps up its operation, entire area is littered with left over vegetables and rotten material thrown carelessly in open grounds.

Till NMC officials find time to clean the mess for citizens it is a frustrating time as entire area reeks of foul smell. Motwani said he lodged on-line compliant about poor waste management on NMC website but it fails to have any impact on the civic body machinery. "I even visited the Lakadganj Zone office several times but the officials there behaved very rudely with us," Motwani stated further. The problem is faced by residents of all the three localities as improper Town Planning has resulted in most of area remaining non accessible and hence door to door garbage collection is not being done in Wathoda area.
