In a major embarrassment to city police, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and Head Constable of Social Security Branch (SSB) were arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday night for demanding bribe of Rs 25,000. The complainant in the case is a notorious pimp having multiple offences registered under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) against her. The two cops allegedly demanded three girls to service them in lieu of not invoking stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act against her.
The action has sent ripples across the city police establishment. According to ACB officials, the SSB had conducted three raids on the flesh trade centres of the complainant in last two years. When the complainant came to SSB office, ASI Damodhar Sampatrao Rajurkar (56) and HC Shitalaprasad Ramlakhan Mishra (51) had allegedly demanded Rs 35,000 to evade action under MPDA. The woman then approached ACB and lodged a complaint against the policemen. Senior ACB officials have given the case to ACB’s Bhandara unit led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chate.
The ACB officials approached the policemen at ACB office with the complainant for verification of the demand on Saturday. During the meeting, the cops demanded minimum Rs 25,000 and three girls to service them. Soon after, the ACB officials returned office and prepared paper work under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) Rashmi Nandedkar and Addl SP Rajesh Duddhalwar.
On Tuesday, the ACB given formal complaint to Rana Pratap Nagar police against the cops and also raided their houses. An offence under various Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the policemen. A senior ACB officials informed The Hitavada that searches are being carried out at the residence of the policemen. PI Purushottam Aherkar, NPC Ashwin Goswami, Parag Raut, Sachin Halmare, Sunil Ukhre, Rasika Kangale, Roshani Patale, Dinesh Dharmik and others took part in the action.
