Civic machinery gearing up for Prime Minister’s visit

Staff Reporter : Entire civic machinery is on its toes ahead of visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to city. In backdrop of the visit, Mayor Nanda Jichkar on Wednesday took review with civic officials. Prime Minister is in city on Saturday for dedication of Aqua Line of Nagpur Metro and launching of many other national schemes. Also he is going to inaugurate several other ventures in the programme organised at Mankapur Indoor Stadium. Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar and other senior civic officials were present at the meeting wherein a list of new works and ongoing development works was finalised. In fact, the meeting laid stress on steps to be taken to ensure cleanliness on the route or places that Prime Minister is likely to visit. Mayor appealed to citizens to co-operate with civic body and ensure that city remains clean so that a right impression falls upon Prime Minister.
 
Under leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari numerous development works were initiated in city and many of them have finished and many more are on verge of completion. The attempt of these developments works is to ensure Nagpur is identified as Smart City. Fire and Emergency Services would station its tenders and personnel at Dr Babasaheb International Airport, Sonegaon, Raj Bhawan, Mankapur Stadium, Subhash Nagar, Sitabuldi Inter-change station of Metro. A survey of Western and South West portions of city was ordered to civic machinery for identifying spots where water remains stagnated and steps be taken to keep them clean. Potholes in the area to be visited by Prime Minister should be filled and levelled and Executive Engineer, Public Works, was directed to carry out the task immediately.
 
Main thrust of the meeting was on cleanliness and Health Department machinery is directed to ensure that streets and areas where programmes are to be held are clean. Garbage lying by road side should be lifted and spots cleaned promptly. Also stray animals should be captured immediately, the Mayor instructed further. Municipal Commissioner instructed Public Works to apply fresh coat of paint on dividers on the route where Prime Minister is going to visit during his tour to city. Footpaths should be cleaned and levelled and identification boards be affixed. Street lights should be checked and faulty bulbs replaced and necessary repairs be done at the earliest.
 
Illegal hoardings should be pulled down and all traffic signals should remain functional. Chief Fire Officer; Amol Chorpagar, Garden Superintendent; Dr Gajendra Mahalle, Animal Husbandry Officer; Raju Bhivgade, Prakash Warade and Ganesh Rathod, all Assistant Commissioner (Zones), were present at the meeting.
