Admn takes tough stance on ragging

In the wake of ragging incident at the SC/ST Boys’ Hostel, District Administration on Friday convened meeting of Hostel Superintendents and directed them to make necessary arrangements to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Talking to the media after the meeting with Hostel Superintendents, Additional Collector Padmini Bhoi stated that they have directed all the Hostel Superintendents to fix loopholes and arrangements at the Hostels to prevent recurrence of such incidents. They were also directed to stay alert after the complaints reported recently.

On the media query as to what sorts of loopholes or shortcomings they found, Bhoi stated some BA-1st year students of SC/ST Hostel lodged a complaint with the police against the seniors, complaining that the latter subjects them to physical and mental harassment. The Complaint was probed and the case reported at the City Kotwali. So, the instructions have been given in this respect.
 
On the question of absence of anti-ragging cell, Additional Collector Bhoi stated directions have been issued for the constitution of Anti-Ragging Cells at District-level. Also, such committees have already been formed in Government institutions. In the recent case, they have suspended a Superintendent of SC/ST Hostel and further instructed that if they ever found any Superintendent is found showing dereliction in duty and if there is any shortcoming in the system, more actions will be taken in the future.
 
In the meantime, School Education Minister Premsai Singh Tekam, talking to the media, stated that to stop the ragging, there is anti-ragging cell. But, perhaps it wasn’t been constitution so far. So, they have directed all the District Collectors to constitute anti-ragging cell in their respective districts and make complete arrangements to prevent recurrence of any such incident, be it in urban area or rural regions such as Ashram Hostels. These committees will soon come into existence and ragging will be stopped.
 
It’s important to note here that some BA-1st year students of SC/ST Hostel had lodged a complaint accusing the seniors against their seniors with the City Kotwali Police Station on Thursday. In response, Collector Dr S Bharatidasan had immediately suspended the Boys’ SC/ST Hostel Superintendent Mahendra Kumar Baghel on the same day.
 
In a written complaint, student Prakash Kumar Pardhi and other juniors made serious allegations on the seniors named Domeshwar Kawar, Amit Kumar Sandil, Khubchand Mali, Jageshwar Netam, Suryakant Kashpap, Raj Sidar, Roshan Paikra, Gajendra Thakur. Allegations such as physical assault, mental harassment and subjecting them to the inhumane and immoral acts were mentioned in the complaint of the BA-1st year students.
