Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) honoured newly-elected mayors and speakers of 10 Municipal Corporations, presidents and vice-presidents from 28 Municipal Councils and 63 Nagar Panchayats and Congress corporators at Indoor Stadium Raipur on Friday at a program titled ‘Janmat Ka Samman’.

Speaking on the occasion, Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge P L Punia said that the newly-elected Congress corporators should not forget their responsibilities towards public and they must give their valuable contributions to make the party stronger in State. Punia said that the party fielded them in the civic bodies elections and so it is their responsibility to make the party stronger in State.

 

The State Congress In-charge asked the newly elected corporators to establish good coordination with local MLA and other senior party leaders. Punia warned the corporators that they should not create any kind of dispute among local leaders that could be harmful for the party.

 

The State Congress In-charge said that Congress registered a historic win in the civic bodies elections by winning 10 Municipal Corporations, 28 Municipal Councils out of 38 and 60 Nagar Panchayats out of 103. Punia credited the party’s success in the civic bodies elections to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) President Mohan Markam and senior party leaders.

 

In his address, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel credited the party’s success in the civic bodies elections to party workers and the Congress leaders.

 

The Chief Minister said, “Today in politics there is intense competition if the public representatives disconnect with public, the public will disconnect them from politics.”

 

The Chief Minister asked the newly elected Mayors, Speakers, Presidents and Vice Presidents to study the State Government’s schemes and publicise them in their respective areas. Baghel asked the corporators to work to strengthen basic facilities for people and also to work towards conservation of water resources and environment.

Congress corporators are the brand ambassadors of the party so it is their responsibility to make the Congress government’s image among the people. The public representatives should provide benefits of the government schemes to the public, he added.

 

Bhupesh Baghel accused Central Government on CAA and NRC issue and alleged that the people are being divided on CAA and NRC while the Chhattisgarh government is working to unite the people of State. He said that NDA’s regime has burdened the people with demonetisation and GST. NDA has also brought in abrogation of article 370, Citizen Amendment Act, National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Baghel questioned the BJP government on Pulwama attack, in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed. He said that the BJP is mum on the issue. DSP Devedra Singh, who was posted at Pulwam when the attack took place, was arrested and there could be a possibility of his involvement in Pulwama attack, he added.

 

In his address, CPCC President Mohan Markam asked the corporators to provide benefit of the government schemes to the needy people. The Congress party has now double responsibilities after winning the civic bodies elections, he added. Markam asked the party leaders to maintain discipline in the party.

 

In his address, Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu warned the newly-elected Congress corporators that they should maintain a safe distance from the persons who may bring discredit to the party and the government even if it is people from the family.

 

Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Charan Das Mahant, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister T S Singhdeo and AICC Secretary for Chhattisgarh Dr Chandan Yadav also addressed the programme. Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey gave the welcome address.

 

Deputy Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Manoj Mandavi, Cabinet Ministers Mohammad Akbar, Dr Premsai Singh Tekam, Kawasi Lakhma, Guru Rudra Kumar, Anila Bhedia, Umesh Patel, Congress leaders Imran Masood, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, Mahendra Chhabra and other party leaders were present.
