SBC polls: Fate of 145 candidates sealed

Fate of as many as 145 candidates who are in fray for various posts of Madhya Pradesh State Bar Council was sealed in ballot boxes. Voting for various posts was held across the State, on Friday. Thousands of advocates have exercised their franchise to elect office-bearers of their choice.

Though the voting was conducted peacefully at maximum polling centres in the State, but situation turned sour at polling no. 2 at District Court in Jabalpur when some advocates had scuffle with police personnel. In the light brawl, an Advocate sustains injury. He later lodged complaint at Omti Police Station. The Police have registered a case under relevant sections and doing further investigation.
 
As per the information, voting was started at 10.05 am and continued till evening. Polling centers were set up in the Silver Jubilee Hall of the High Court and at new building of the District court. Special Committee was formed for the election activities.
 
Entire voting process was conducted under the supervision of Chairman of the Committee, and Advocate General, Shashank Shekhar, Observer Justice K K Trivedi and Justice H P Singh. Returning Officer, Prashant Dubey along with Judicial Officers conducted the election proceedings. Dubey informed that, as
 
many as 145 candidates are trying their fate for various posts of 25-member new Executive Committee of the State Bar Council. He said maximum voters, out of total 56,758 voters, who were verified by the Supreme Court have exercised their franchise to decide the fate of the candidates. He informed that the voting was performed peacefully but due to some objection re-poling would be done at polling no. 2, set up at District Court. He said total 3710 voters would cast voter during repelling.
