“I am a part of Nagpur. Every person earns name because of Sanskars he gets. Nagpur has done those Sanskars on me and I am proud of it. Honourable President of India gave me oath but, today, after the overwhelming felicitation by Nagpurians, I am touched. Now, I really feel to have become Chief Justice of India,” expressed Justice Sharad Bobde, Chief Justice of India on Saturday at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Hall. Justice Bobde was replying to the grand felicitation by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

Union Minister of Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari, Judge of Supreme Court Justice Bhushan Gavai, Maharashtra’s Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Nagpur’s Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Sunil Kedar, Senior Administrative Judge of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court Justice Ravi Deshpande, ex-Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra State Assembly Devendra Fadnavis, Mayor Sandip Joshi, Deputy Mayor Manisha Kothe, Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar were seated on the dais. Justice Bobde delivered a speech which was full of emotions. He became nostalgic while mentioning the places like Telangkhedi, Ambazari and Maharajbag. Expressing gratitude towards Bapuji Aney, General Awari, ex-Chief Minister Kannamwar, Golwalkar Guruji, A B Bardhan, Vasantrao Sathe, Rikhabchand Sharma, Rajabhau Khobragade, Jambuvantrao Dhote, Govindrao Deshmukh, Dr Gopalrao Deshmukh, Justice Bobde said that these persons inspired him. “Janardan Swami taught me Yoga, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj taught me service to mankind. Justice Bobde recollected Nana Rator, a well-known mimicry artist of yesteryear, with honour.
 
“Blowing of siren from Model Mill chimneys had helped people reached in time at their workstations. The biggest revolution of the country took place in Nagpur done by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar who did Dhammakranti in 1956. Now Nagpur is known as Deekshabhoomi. Everybody nowadays talks about right which is a good thing. At the same time nobody should forget their responsibilities prescribed in Constitution of India. With the passage of time Nagpur has changed. I must appreciate NMC for keeping city clean,” commented Chief Justice of India. Gadkari and Sandip Joshi felicitated Justice Bobde with shawl, memento and scroll of honour. Joshi felt his honour as he could felicitate Justice Bobde. He also said that the competency of Justice Bobde would keep inspiring everybody.
 
Abhijit Bangar read the scroll of honour. Shweta Shelgaonkar compered the programme while Manisha Kothe proposed a vote of thanks. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, “Justice Bobde with his work has taken Nagpur to a great height and we are proud of him. His journey is very inspiring.” Mentioning the peculiar quality of Justice Bobde of maintaining public relations, Justice Gavai stated, “Justice Bobde has added another feather in the cap of Nagpur. With vastness of his friend circle Justice Bobde is the symbol of national unity.” Calling Justice Bobde, the friend of farmer, Fadnavis pointed out, “Justice Bobde always helped farmers when he was practicing lawyer. He never take a single penny whenever he appeared for any farmer. I am hopeful that he would provide justice to the downtrodden.” Anil Deshmukh, Sunil Kedar and Dr Nitin Raut shared the memories they had with Justice Bobde.

Rejuvenate lakes: Justice Bobde to NMC Appealing NMC to rejuvenate the lakes like Futala, Telangkhedi and Gandhisagar Justice Sharad Bobde said, “These lakes can supply water to Nagpur city. There was system in the past that should be revived. Secondly, clean Nag river which is the identity of this city.”
