Desire of doing something unique has motivated a 43-year-old farmer from village Jongara in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district to evolve as an e-commerce businessman. With technical know how from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Janjgir-Champa, farmer Rakesh Jaiswal has become e-commerce businessman by tapping needs of people for organic products like dung cake, vermicompost, cow dung compost, manure, desi ghee and other organic products.

After discussing the entire business plan with scientist of KVK Janjgir-Champa, the graduate farmers started working on its implementation around two years back. Later, Jaiswal procured a manual machine from Ahmedabad for production of dung cake. The manual machine produces dung cake in different shapes and sizes. “The decision of adopting online business has remarkably changed my livelihood and now, I am giving employment to around five persons, including women, and works to women self helped groups. Moreover, this business has increased cash flow with me, which is a great change for any farmer who usually gets cash in interval of around 6 months after selling its crops,” said Rakesh Jaiswal.

The objective of this business plan was to do something different associated with agricultural field and break the chain which involves mediators, added Jaiswal. After discussing issues like perishability, packaging and quality, the products have been introduced in e-commerce website, said Jaiswal, adding that with some ups and downs, now the response is fine and likely to get better this year. He further informed that products introduced in e-commerce website are vermicompost, cow dung compost, cow dung cake, neem cake, goat manure, potting soil, locally grown turmeric, black turmeric, tulsi mala, rakt gunjan mala, lotus seeds, sandalwood powder, ready to use desi ghee and other organic products.
