Worried over slow pace of Property Tax recovery, Tax and Assessment Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) directed officials to visit household so that revenue targets can be achieved. Two months remains for financial closure and officials need to increased efforts and also recover arrears. The Committee held its meeting at Standing Committee Hall at Central Office of NMC recently.
 
The meeting was chaired by Mahendra Dhanvijay, Chairperson, while those attended it included Sunil Agrawal, Deputy Chairperson, members - Ujjwal Sharma, Shilpa Dhote and Sneha Nikose; Milind Meshram, Assistant Commissioner, Tax; Gautam Patil, Superintendent, Tax; Umredkar, Tax Collector, Raju Bhivgade, Kiran Bagde, Ganesh Rathod, Harish Raut, Prakash Warhade, Sneha Karpe, Subhash Jaidev, all Zonal Assistant Commissioners, and all Assistant Commissioner, Tax, working in 10 Zones of NMC. Dhanvijay said employees would need to work even on holidays as the target set for this year is quite massive and recovery at present is very less.
 
The officials should take help of office bearers and corporators in increasing compliance from citizens. Publicity should be given to drive undertaken by NMC to attach properties of citizens for failure to pay the property tax. The meeting also took stock of the property tax recovery across the 10 Zones for year 2019-20. During the review the officials presented the data. Dhanvijay also asked for details from Zones as to steps taken at their level to bolster up tax revenue. To step up the recovery, Dhanvijay said he would be taking weekly meetings.
