In another breakthrough, Raipur Police on Monday claimed to have nabbed three persons allegedly indulged in abduction of industrialist Praveen Somani. “Three persons involved in kidnapping of Somani were arrested by a police team from Odisha’s Ganjam district. The arrested abductors revealed that due to frequent raids and extensive investigation taken up by Raipur Police in Uttar Pradesh and other states, the gang was under immense pressure and escaped from UP by leaving the industrialist without taking any ransom,” stated Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaikh Arif Husen.
The arrested were identified as Sishir Swain (24), Tophan Gond (28) and Pradeep Bhuyan alias Babu (27), all natives of Odisha, informed SSP Husen, adding that operations are still underway to nab other accused in the case. Detailing about the operation resulting in arrest of three accused from Odisha, SSP Husen said “following precise tip-off that accused were hiding in Ganjam, a police team swung into action and arrested them after 30 hours long operation.” “During the course of interrogation, the trio informed that they were lodged in the Surat Jail with gang’s mastermind Pappu Choudhary in separate cases.
The plan for kidnapping was hatched in the jail. Munna Nahak has assured the arrested trio of giving Rs 10 lakh each after the ransom amount will be received. All the accused have decided flee Nepal after receiving ransom amount. All the abductors reached the state capital through separate means on January 3. Munna Nahak brought the arrested trio,” elaborated SSP Husen. The arrested trio will be taken to the crime scene for re-construction of the incident, added SSP Husen.
