After raising an alert against presence of leopard in Walmi area, the Forest Department asked students of several institutes on Tuesday to be alert. The department has traced pugmark of wildlife from garden of MP Bhoj University Vice Chancellor Jayant Sonwalkar. As the pugmark of animal is similar to big cat, officials are suspecting this a tiger or leopard. Forest Department took sample of the pug mark and said to confirm the name of animal soon.
The pugmark was about eight to ten days old. For safety purpose, Forest Department has asked students of Bhoj University, NIF, Excellence College, Madhya Pradesh Private University Regulatory Commission (MPPURC) and Jagran Lakecity to be alert. They have been asked to step out of campus in groups and do not move alone in the area. For past two days, a leopard is being sighted around Walmi area which is close to Kerwa and Kaliyasot. Locals residing in the area are scared of the leopard for two days and they are avoiding stepping out of home. On Tuesday, the same leopard was sighted around 13 Shutter Gate area. Forest Department has suggested people to keep the cattle and children inside home. Patrolling team of Forest Department reached the spot and check the presence of leopard. This is for the second time when leopard reached in Walmi area.
Eyewitness of the incident Rashid Khan said that he was moving towards his home with a friend meanwhile he sighted the leopard crossing the road. He immediately informed about the leopard to forest team. Patrolling team was sent to the spot to check the matter. The team confirmed pugmark of leopard and said that people residing in the area need to be alert. Samardha Forest Ranger A K Jhawar said that movement of leopard in the area is very common. People residing in the area need to be alert and they should move out of home in groups.
