When everywhere talk is going on regarding conducting on-line classes, on-line examinations, even the New Education Policy too has said about on-line classes, Medical Council of India (MCI) has decided something different.

It has decided not to approve the MBBS teaching curriculum by foreign Medical University through on-line medium. In Maharashtra, the Medical Education Department took some different steps. Amit Deshmukh, its Minister went by the rules of apex bodies like MCI, Dental Council of India (DCI), CCIM etc. Maharashtra University Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr Dileep Mhaisekar insisted to hold examinations offline and were held accordingly. All the Post Graduate examinations are over while Under Graduate medical examinations are being conducted offline.

The results of PG examinations too are out. The University increased the number of examination centres and conducted examinations offline to make students follow the rule of physical distancing. MCI was against on-line classes but could not disapprove the entire classes as during lockdown some medical colleges opted for the same. The National Medical Commission (NMC) that has taken over made it clear in view of pandemic Covid-19, the medical colleges, institutions in India are conducting on-line theory classes for MBBS students. On-line classes are valid and were approved for teaching during current pandemic Covid-19 only. This approval is only for the classes held earlier.

Otherwise MCI is against on-line classes. While approving those on-line theory classes, MCI said those are required to be supplemented by practical and clinical training as per current curriculum in all MBBS subjects in the colleges, institutions and affiliated hospitals as and when colleges reopen. Somebody had enquired his or her doubt about online classes attended by some students conducted by some foreign medical universities. While replying to this Right to Information (RTI) querry, the NMC disapproved the classes conducted by foreign universities.
