INDIAN Friends Football Club (IFFC), Chankapur, recently organised a webinar on minimising injuries in sports and its prevention. Ronnie Chatterjee, BCCI appointed Physio for North East State cricketers was the resource person. Chatterjee also works as Head, Physio, IDCPE’s Advance Studio for Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine Care during off season.

The webinar was attended by Deputy Director, Sports and Youth Services, Nagpur Division Avinash Pund, Nagpur District Football Association member Mubin Ahmed, B Licence Football coach Ritesh Inumula, Amit Anthony, Savio Andrew, PET St John’s School, Papan Pramanik, Shakti Singh, Hardik Kanjoiya and others. Chatterjee said that injuries can never be prevented but it can be minimised. He said a player should focus more on recovery after training or a competitive match. “Sports specific training and schedule is the need of the hour to change the culture of the city where we lack in sports education and guidance. Most of the players do not follow rehab procedure due to which they suffer major injuries in their life.

Coaches should get educated regarding sports injuries and their basic treatment. Nowadays, players suffer cardiac arrest on the field so they should have the knowledge about CPR. Every team must have a physio who can keep them fit,” said Chatterjee. Chatterjee also stressed on workload management. “Workload monitoring is very crucial during pre competition and competition phase.

Due to unplanned and excessive workouts, players suffer tightness (first symptoms of injury) which results in major injuries,” he explained. He also put stress on cooling down after every practice or match. Chatterjee also talked about injuries such as hamstring, groin, ACL and meniscus damage. He explained how one can prevent major injuries and when to take ice therapy and when to use heat therapy during the injury period. “The role of a proper balanced diet and hydrated body is helpful for maintaining a body metabolism,” Chatterjee said. Chatterjee also replied to queries put up by the students. Ankush Bhadange co-ordinated the webinar.
